FACES of Boyertown: The first challenge was having fine art photographer Linda Bell take hundreds of photographs of those who live, work, or visit Boyertown. This challenge has resulted in an exhibit of the photographic portraits that opened on June 8, 2019, as part of the Berks-Mont Business Association’s (BMBA’s) Philadelphia Avenue Street Fair. Bell’s photographs were taken throughout the spring and summer at a variety of locations and added to the exhibit throughout the summer.
PLACES of Boyertown Members Exhibit: The second challenge was offered to Studio B’s artist members. The artists were given a 20” x 20” canvas and challenged to create work on the theme of PLACES of Boyertown. An opening reception featuring an exhibit of these works of art will be held in the studio’s Gray Gallery on August 30, 2019, from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
FACES of Boyertown Poster Reveal: The third challenge was to Biebuyck herself to create a poster of the entire collection of Bell’s photographic portraits. The poster featuring hundreds of the FACES of Boyertown will be revealed and for sale at the reception.
Studio B Fine Art Gallery, 39A East Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown, PA, is pleased to announce the opening of FACES of Boyertown on Saturday, June 8, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. during Berks-Mont Business Association’s annual Philadelphia Avenue Street Fair. The exhibitions run through August 23, 2019.
The main exhibit features photographic portraits taken by local fine art photographer Linda Bell of people who live, work, or visit the Boyertown community. Studio B Fine Art Gallery, Taylor Backes Glass Studio, the Museum of Historic Vehicles, and the Other Farm and Forge, and private residences have been locations for the photo shoots.
“Including the people I know and love—and those whom I’ve not yet met—as the very content of the exhibit embodies the spirit and mission of Studio B,” explained Jane Stahl, Director of Community Relations. “Since we opened in 2008, we’ve strived to be a space for art and artists and the ‘go to’ place for learning, fun, and friendship for the entire community.”
Bell will be taking photographs during the Philadelphia Avenue Street Fair at Rita’s Water Ice, corner of Franklin Street and E. Philadelphia Avenue from 11:00-2:00 p.m.
In Studio B’s Grey Gallery is an exhibit by Ron Schira entitled “Experiments, Wanderings and Inquiries: Works on Paper.” Schira has served as the area’s leading art critic for the Reading Eagle for over 24 years.
Studio B Fine Art Gallery, 39A East Philadelphia Avenue in Boyertown, PA, is pleased to announce the opening of Getting a•round a.k.a. Wheels•2, an exhibition of fine art submitted by the area’s fine artists, on Friday, April 19, 2019, from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. The exhibit will run through Sunday, June 2, 2019.
“The area’s artists are challenged to respond to all things round,” explained Susan Biebuyck, Studio B’s gallery director and fine artist.
“We had a huge response to last season’s “Wheels” exhibit, so we decided to bring it around again in hopes of raising funds for the future Secret Valley Bike Trail, a path that will lead from Boyertown to the Schuylkill River Trail neighboring Pottstown,” Biebuyck continued.
Funded by a grant from the Boyertown Area Charitable program of Berks County Community Foundation (BCCF), the exhibit seeks to celebrate for the second year the myriad means of transportation that have played an important part of Boyertown’s history and currently attract visitors to the area.
Popular historic venues include the Colebrookdale Railroad and Museum of Historic Vehicles in Boyertown and the Carousel at Pottstown. Car enthusiasts, racing fans, bicyclists, and motorcycle clubs showcase their love affair with wheels in contemporary culture.
“But ‘round things’ populate the natural world in addition to mankind’s inventions,” noted Jane Stahl, Studio B’s Director of Community Relations. “I expect our creative people to bring us loops and spheres, Fibonacci spirals, rings and disks of assorted types in their responses to this year’s theme.”

Studio B, 39A East Philadelphia Avenue in Boyertown, PA, is pleased to announce the opening of “Wabi-sabi: Celebrating Simple Beauty,” the studio’s sixth annual exhibit and book release combining literary and visual art.
The exhibit, sponsored by Tompkins VIST Bank, opens March 15, 2019, with a reception from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and runs through April 14, 2019. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.
“This year’s theme was suggested by one of our participating artists,” explained Jane Stahl, Director of Community Relations. ‘“Wabi’ means things that are fresh and simple. ‘Sabi’ calls to mind the cycles of age and the things whose beauty stems from age,” she continued.
“This Japanese world-view provides a balm to many of our modern-day ills and ameliorates the greed and incivility rampant in the current culture. The mindfulness of wabi-sabi finds both the glory and the melancholy in one single morning glory, a gray December landscape, the aching beauty of an abandoned shed, rusty tools, a chipped vase, a faded piece of cloth,” Stahl explained.
Prizes to visual artists and writers will be awarded at the opening reception by Margaret Harner. Harner is retired from the Boyertown Area School District where she taught social studies for 37 years. Since retirement, she has devoted much of her time to writing about local history. She has co-authored 5 books about the town where she grew up, and wrote a history of St. John’s Lutheran Church and One Day at a Time: A Social History of Boyertown, plus numerous pamphlets and newspaper and magazine articles. She has served on boards of directors for Building a Better Boyertown, the Boyertown United Way, the local historical society, and the General Carl A. Spaatz Museum.
The Miskos are serving for the fifth year as sponsors for the exhibit’s prizes and provide the funding for the awards.
The booklet of prose, poetry, and illustrations edited by Stahl and Susan Biebuyck, fine artist and Studio B’s gallery director, features the work of local writers and artists and will be offered for sale in addition to the art.
“We are grateful for the sponsorship of Tompkins VIST Bank,” noted Biebuyck, “and for the leadership of Lori Carnes, Branch Manager. “In an effort to assist us in promoting the exhibit and the work of our artists and writers, Lori invited us to stage a mini art exhibit at the Boyertown location. We are always eager to showcase our talented artists wherever we can,” she continued, “and appreciate Lori’s thoughtfulness.”
Throughout the exhibit’s run several opportunities for writers, artists, and the community are planned. On Sunday, March 24, 2019, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m., a poetry/prose reading of the works included in the booklet will be held.
On Sunday, April 7, 2019, 2 p.m.-4 p.m., writers and artists are invited to an “ekphrastic” workshop in which writers are asked to bring a poem or prose selection and ask our visual artists to respond to it and our visual artists are asked to bring a piece of their artwork and have writers respond to it in a poem or prose piece.
Studio B Fine Art Gallery, 39A East Philadelphia Avenue in Boyertown, PA, announces the opening of “Farm to Table,” the studio’s 11th annual exhibit celebrating the area’s agricultural roots.

This year gallery director Susan Biebuyck added food art to the exhibit’s focus highlighting her view that “in the end, it’s all about the food.”
“This year we want to acknowledge the support of our Pennsylvania legislators in naming Pennsylvania Council on the Arts as the sponsor of the exhibit,” explained Jane Stahl, Director of Community Relations.
Prizes will be awarded on Friday night, including the coveted “Best In Show,” which nets the winner a cash prize as well as a featured spot during the agriculturally/environmentally-themed exhibit in 2020.
