Nationally recognized and honored artist James Doddy is a true Renaissance man. Expert in the visual arts as an accomplished graphic designer, illustrator, and painter, his interests span a broad spectrum of the communication arts. A graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art, with a BFA in Illustration, his career successes in the commercial, as well as fine arts fields have been many.
Mr. Doddy’s visual communication skills as an artist have served many diversifed creative challenges for over a quarter century. As an art director for an International magazine publisher, his graphic expertise and direction were instrumental in publication design formats. While heading up a multi-media groups creative department, he went on to design and execute graphic programs / campaigns for several Fortune 500 companiews, while also illustrating for children’s art products and national fast food chains. Mr. Doddy has taught at the College level and exhibits his work in shows and galleries.
Mr. Doddy is active member of the United States Air Force Art Program, and currently has eight paintings permanently displayed in the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. An honor bestowed on him by Dr. James Roche, Secretary of the Air Force, and General John P. Jumper, Chief of Staff.U.S.Air Force.
“My influences and approaches to painting were from Renaissance and Impressionist painters,” Doddy says. “Degas wrote:”Painting is not form, but the way form is seen.” For me, painting is both technical and individual,and much of the joy I encounter in my paintings lies in the individual strokes I create, and to share my personal experiences at the moment when emotion,revelation, and technique unite.
