Artist Statement “Keep it realistic” is my mantra. My interest in painting began by
watching painting shows on TV many years ago. Back in 1987, I decided to try it, and I
created my first oil painting of the Grand Teton Mountains in Wyoming (which we had
just visited). It was such an enjoyable experience; that I just kept going, ever since. My
interests changed from oils to acrylics when I developed an allergic reaction to the oil
paints. I have tried all of the mediums, but I always come back to acrylics. Acrylics are
so user-friendly; and feel so natural to me, now. Painting helps me lose all sense of
time and I become completely relaxed! I painted part-time until I retired from teaching in
2006. Now, I paint every day; and I am still enjoying the thrill of creating.
My Preferences:
This is a list of the things that they most enjoy painting:
Places I’ve visited.
Zoo animals.
Still Lives.
Flowers and vegetables.
Landscapes.
I still try to be flexible and give new things a try. Sometimes, I really challenge myself to
paint something I think is beyond me. Like when I painted thirty paintings in 30 days
this past January. What an experience. I always learn something from each painting;
that I can use again, later. When I am unable to paint, for whatever reason; I feel like
my best friend is missing. It’s my happy place! It’s where I go to be ME… to recreate
things I love or enjoyed!
