Joe Szimhart

Producing art has traveled with me as a passion for many decades since I began studies at the University of Dayton and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, then living in Santa Fe, NM for eighteen years and back to Pennsylvania since the 1990s. I was a studio artist at the Goggleworks Art Center in Reading, PA for seven years. My work tends to range from loose and symbolic use of images to having fun with esoteric ideas. I made a living doing portraits of people and animals for many years and have been exhibiting since the 1970s. My teaching experience includes life drawing instruction at St. John’s College in Santa Fe and teaching college level art courses under Project Newgate at New Mexico State Penitentiary.  And yes, I have won some awards and handled dozens of commissions along the way.
