Mary Ann Mengel is a Pennsylvania artist who resides in beautiful Berks County. She has been drawing, painting, and making things since childhood. Mengel began art studies with a scholarship to the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts, an intensive summer arts program for talented high school students. After earning a BFA cum laude in Communication Design from Kutztown University, she later acquired a master’s degree in instructional technology from Bloomsburg University, graduating with a 4.0 GPA.
Although her passion lies with painting, her career path led to creative fields like graphic design, photography, marketing, web design and finally as an instructional multimedia designer for a university. In this role, she utilized digital media tools to design and develop instructional videos, interactive learning resources and online courses. She also taught faculty development workshops, specializing in topics related to instructional multimedia design and digital accessibility.
Retired from academics, Mengel devotes her creative energies to painting, working primarily in oils. She has been mentored by a number of master artists through Mastrius, an online community for creatives. Inspired by nature and the connection of humans with their environment, her knowledge of design, color relationships, and creative communication informs her reimagined interpretations of small moments, magnified with colorful, expressive brushwork. She paints a variety of subjects including landscapes, florals and figures.
