Mary Ann Mengel is an oil painter inspired by the connection between humans and their surroundings. Her work is primarily figurative–whether direct, implied, or symbolic. She is intrigued by the interplay of energy between people, their environment, and natural elements. She seeks to reveal a visual narrative of otherwise unseen relationships. Her color palette is grounded in nature, imaginative and leans toward abstraction, revealing the significance she feels for her subject matter. Although you’ll occasionally find her painting en plein air, she primarily paints in her Berks County studio, drawing her inspiration from the many reference photos she shoots of people, landscapes and travels. Mengel earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology.
